Permitting one last summer in Idaho Falls after graduation, I headed off to UI in Moscow in Fall 1999. Four years later, I earned a BA in the rather arcane fields of German Literature and Philosophy. Luckily, the German major included a year in Germany in which I met my partner, Theodore Jackson. He and I then moved to St. Louis, Missouri so he could start a graduate program there. I then spent five years toiling away in an Office-Space-like way as an advisor to international students at a university, earning an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language along the way. By 2007, the pull of good old Europe was too much, and as a result, my partner and I moved to Berlin, Germany. That was such a fantastic year, and it was only under the greatest duress that I abandoned the reunified capital. Here I am in Chicago, working through law school. I am now at the halfway mark through this ordeal; 1.5 years down, 1.5 to go. Still, my thoughts are fixed permanently eastward, so don't be surprised if you find me in Berlin again! |
